Flickr Films 2012-3
digital videos, digital photoframes, perspex photoframes
Flickr Films (2012) comprises an array of domestic digital photo frames, each containing a quickfire slideshow made up of thousands of images sourced from the photo sharing website Flickr. The digital frames are mounted using plastic photo frames, so as to cast their light upwards onto the wall while offering only a peripheral view of the actual imagery. This foregrounds the flickering lights created by the images and the screen as an object. During the development of the work, between 3000 and 6000 images were uploaded to Flickr in any given minute. The number of images presented on each screen reflects this overwhelming proliferation of digital images, while the rapid interchange of images creates a spatialised Flicker Effect, a light show emanating from the screens in a constantly shifting play of colour and brightness.
