This series of works records everyday phenomena as analogue simulations of the optical stimulation embodied in Structuralist Flicker Films. These include the light filtered through trees recorded from a moving car (Photic Drive) and the simple gesture of repeatedly waving a hand in front of the camera (Flicking Film). In contrast to the semi-industrial darkroom processes used to produce the monochromatic frames of the original flicker films, these are obviously drawn from the natural world. At the same time, these works foreground the material elements of the technology used; the screen itself and the projector, each with their own reflected and flickering lights.
